A Classic Engagement

It all started when Mr Honeysuckle and I decided we wanted to incorporate more classic film type stuff into our wedding. We already had the general Old Hollywood feel (well, hopefully we do) and the table names being classic stars. But what that table name discussion led to was a realisation that we couldn’t agree on the perfect name for our head table! I, of course, was all for Judy Garland, but Mr HS had a point when he said that it would just look like I made every single decision about everything to do with the wedding (Um, didn’t I?). Anyway, so that was off the table (haha), as was BM-Best Friend’s suggestion of using a classic couple like Fred & Ginger (which I really loved, but apparently it was also too much Mizz and not enough Mr Honeysuckle!) So anyway, at some point, Mr HS suggested that we just name the table after ourselves. Which I immediately vetoed, because how was it going to fit into the classic movie theme without a picture of classic movie stars on both the table and the table listing?

Aha. Here’s how:

We take our engagement shoot (which is included in the photography package we chose) and make it Old Hollywood Style.

Sometimes I am just too brilliant.

Having fun in your wedding dress

How many of us just have our photos taken at the venue and reception, and of course where you get dressed. … BUT has anyone thought of actually having FUN in your dress?

Not having your posed pictures, and not just normal ones.. I mean like going to places close-by your venue, and just have fun shots taken in your dress?

JUST having fun

More beautiful photos

Back in February, Mrz Queen Bee posted some of her favourite wedding photos. While I’m still on a photography roll from last week’s blog, here are some of mine. I’ve lost a couple of the photographer details, unfortunately.

I tried to do a top 10, but it ended up as a top 23, which I then forced down to a top fifteen. In no particular order:

Recreating a picture

While I was looking for photos for my classic film star table names, I came across this beautiful one of Ginger Rogers, and just fell in love with it!

Isn’t it lovely? I want to ask my photographer if there’s any way she can recreate this pose and sepia feel for one of my wedding pictures. I would looove to have a photo of me like this one hanging up in my house!

Anyone else find a great photo, a pose or just a “feel” that they want to recreate in their wedding photos?

“Planning your big day is a daunting task but once you have chosen the right people to work with you can relax - for a while!   I feel so lucky to be involved with such special, happy days and am extremely aware of the responsibility in being entrusted to capture these great memories.  Photographing weddings is not just about documenting the day and having a permanent record. It is about catching the moments as well as the character and feeling of the day so that they can be held onto and treasured for years and generations to come.  My personal photography style has been described as ‘reportage’. My pictures are very honest, natural and uncontrived – a description which funnily enough could very well match the character of my clients!”

A Bride on the hunt for the Perfect Photographer

I have to tell you all about the trials and tribulations of my photographer selection! A few of the other Buzzing Bloggers have posted about how important it is to find a great photographer, and I’m here to add my 2c worth. It’s SO important. Granted, I’m not married yet, but from all I hear, the day goes by for the bride in a kind of haze. You’re so tired from the stress of preparation, of being the focus of everyone’s attention, and from, oh, the most important day of your life, that it’s not surprising you don’t remember every bit of it. Photos are the only tangible thing you’ll have left after the wedding, so make sure they’re good ones!

I see brides with really ugly photos and I just want to cry for them. How sad is it to have a memento of such a wonderful day, and you don’t even want to look at it? One thing I’ve learned from all these recent “Beautiful Bride” competition groups on Facebook, is that it doesn’t matter how beautiful the bride is, it’s how beautiful the photo is. You can be the plainest girl in the city, but a good photographer will make you look stunning. Likewise, you can be a supermodel and just end up looking ordinary. As soon as my wedding (and possible home-purchasing, oh my goodness) is over, I’m going to think about taking a photography course. I really need to know what it is these people do that makes the ordinary look extraordinary. Besides photoshop. :-)
