Top wedding trends for 2009!

This article is brought to you by Emily Tanner at World of Wedding Favours.

The question on every bride & wedding planner’s lips is, ‘What will be the hot wedding colour trends for 2009?’  2007 and 2008 have seen our brides showcasing the following colour trends; Soft Greens with White, Lilac with Purple tones, Chocolate Brown and anything in Monochrome Black & White. These colours have been so popular and may still continue into 2009 weddings & events, though an explosion in fresher, brighter colours is more likely.

In contrast to the softer more subtle shades of last year, the forthcoming trends for 2009 will be far more exotic, brightly coloured and – believe it or not – almost luminous! Now before you start to panic, you do not need to go for anything too ghastly or too dominating. However, any bride who wishes to strut her stuff in style in 2009 needs to make a bold splash of colour if she wishes to remain in-line with other fashionistas!

78 Days & Counting

We met our photographer at our venue, Ingwenya Country Estate, on Sunday to walk through the grounds and go over the lighting that we’ll have in the reception hall.  Highly recommended that you do this because your photographer won’t waste time on the day trying to find appealing spots to take photos and he/she would have prepared for any bad lighting in the hall or on the grounds.  Going to the venue and viewing the hall again put alot in place for us because it’s easy to forget the specifics of the venue after your first visit.   As mentioned in my previous blog, we’re moving the ceremony into the gardens and viewing the actual spot was so exciting and gave us a great indication of how we’re going to have everything set up.  It makes the rest of the planning much easier.  I suggest you go to the venue a few times if you’re not sure about the table layouts, DJ spot, main table area, decor ideas, etc.  It falls into place nicely once you’ve been a few times.

I also previously mentioned that we would visit the Oriental Market opposite Bruma Lake.  I recommend a visit there if you’re looking at DIY projects and saving cash.  They have EVERYTHING!  I just love the Chinese!  They are so creative and supply so much for you to choose from.  I’m using string beads in the centrepieces and there is a huge ‘florist’ and accessory shop there which is completely affordable.  A huge variety of  creative items, that if you haven’t wanted to use before, you’ll be using once you see them!

We have also decided to scrap the decor ……

Flowers or no flowers…..???

With only 97 days of wedding planning left, I realized with a bang that flowers are really expensive. The quotes I received left me with the question if it is really worth all that money for a few hours. I went on a search for ideas that contain no or only a little bit of flowers and what a pleasant surprise to see how absolutely stunning a centre piece or aisle can look if you are just a little bit creative. I thought I’d share some of the pics I got on my search with you. It ranges from using lemons, limes and oranges to painted metal flowers. The sky is the limit!

There is not a set rule that you have to have flowers on your tables and some of these centre pieces can be used again, especially if you are on a really tight budget. You can also save money on flowers by not using any flowers during your ceremony but rather use candles. To add flowers to the pictures of you signing the register, you can simply place your bouquet on the table. For more stunning ideas of flowerless centerpieces and isles see www.theknot.com . So, before throwing a lot of money on the table for flowers, sit and think about how you can be creative!! Happy planning!!

Sky Lanterns – Gorgeous Find!

A while ago a friend mentioned having gone to a wedding where they released “sky lanterns” during the reception. I heard about them once again when my sister went over to Thailand on holiday and told me about them, and how beautiful they are. So I thought I would do a little research and here’s what I found out for you Brides 2 Be.

Fold up ballet flats – perfect for the reception

Ladies, check out these fabulous FOLD UP ballet flats (FUPS), perfect for you to wear after a few dances at your wedding reception.

1513

I remember after our first dance, I ran up to our honeymoon suite and thankfully I had a pair of flats to wear, otherwise I would have gone barefoot (something many brides have done) but in my case, ended up with broken glass on my feet.  FUPS are fabulous if you don’t have somewhere to keep a spare pair of shoes and they really fold up to a small size.

FUPS come in Black (not so weddingy I know, but they would make great bridesmaids gifts!) and champagne, but the creators have asked us to test the water on a white pair.  SO, please leave your comments below and there may just be a white pair in the pipeline soon.

I reviewed a pair for Bridesbuzzing’s sister site, StyleScoop, so go have a look and be sure to enter the competition as we are giving away three pairs.
