The Seating Chart.  This phrase sends a shiver down my spine, and rightfully so. “Why?” you ask. Because you want your guests to be comfortable so that they can enjoy your special day with you.  Trying to achieve this is a flipping nightmare…

Remember that we have 4 large tables and a main table. So we do not have a lot to play with.

Firstly, the 5 year old flower girl can’t be separated from her parents or grandparents; she’ll throw a tantrum and you do not want that on you special day. Then you can’t have all your friends at the same table, because there are too many (not complaining, this is a blessing J). So we need to split our friends. But you can’t have two twenty-year olds with a table full of older married couples.

You see what I’m getting at here?! It took us two hours and a lot of blood, sweat and tears to sort this out! (Okay, I’m exaggerating slightly, but it took real effort…)

Here’s my advice to future couples who needs to sort out their seating plan.

1. Stay calm and listen to your partner.
2. Create a physical mock-up table layout with paper. It’s much easier once you see it in front of you.
3. Remember that it’s your day and not everyone is going to be happy. They need to deal with it themselves…

They always manage to get an “Aaaawwww cuuuute!” out of your guests. A flower girl adds a dash of sweet innocence to your wedding. Yet, I’ve seen MANY weddings without a flower girl in sight! Look at these little princesses from Irene Quist Photography, BonaFideBride and Nikki Meyer Photography.

Well, my little princess is 5 years old and does not eat any of the food the caterers are serving at the wedding… so that’s a little hurdle we still need to cross. Pizza, anyone?

That being said, the food is going to be divine! We went for a tasting-session on Friday and we were SO impressed!

39 days and counting…

I can’t wait until this weekend. We’re going through to Montagu (where we are having our wedding), to taste the food we are serving our guests and to decorate a table with the decor we have chosen. So it’s all very exciting!

But little surprises still manage to creep up every now and then… last week, for example, we did not have a DJ anymore. Yes, the one our planner had booked moved to Johannesburg… breathe in, breathe out…

Luckily we found a backup that does not charge an arm and a leg. Seriously, when did wedding DJ’s become so EXPENSIVE?! It’s very hard to keep your pose over the phone when someone tells you “We charge you R7000 and you must provide accommodation.” What?!

Otherwise things are coming together nicely. Now it’s just the little nitty gritty things, like gifts for the bridesmaids. I found a very nice checklist to help me remember all the little things towards the end. Go and have a look.

After having a meltdown (okay, I’m being a bit dramatic!), I did a bit of research on dressing your body type. Then I realized that a princess-line dress would be very flattering. When I showed a picture to my dressmaker, she completely agreed!  And I must say, my dress is nearly finished and it’s gorgeous!

Now some brides prefer to wear really, really tight undergarments to “hide” their flaws. I tried wearing one of those body suits that suck everything in and it’s awful! Spare yourself! You want to breathe on your wedding day, don’t you?
