Inspiration from the kitchen garden
I was visiting mom’s vegetable garden and spotted her chernobyl spring onions overgrowing in the far corner. Out came the scissors and I happily snipped the ball-shaped buds of these unusually large species. On the way in I passed by the lavender bush and out came the scissors again.
I made this arrangement in minutes (without prior flower-arrangement knowledge), so I’m thinking: maybe this kitchen garden look could go with my Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme?

I have had such a hectic time with the decor arrangements and trying to cut down on the quote. After thinking the first decor quote of R9000 was too expensive we ended up getting a much better decor idea from SA Wedding Decor which came to almost R20 000! We’re moving towards a similar theme and feel to the below but after scrutinizing the quote and remembering that I am very creative, the centrepieces will be done by me and I am scrapping the white sheer organza overlays and the large white painted trees we were going to have as features on each side of the main table. We have so much else going on that we can safely do without these things. I’ve managed to get the quote down by R7000!

We were also lucky enough to get the very best gift of all from one of our MC’s and good friend. Read the rest of this entry »
The NEW Theme
Today its exactly 7 months to the BIG day, we now have the venue sorted….YAY!!!! And we had decided on the décor and colors.
Everything’s going well you think…….mmmmm well it is but with a twist.
Mr Daisy decided that we should add some black into the picture and black doesn’t mix well at all with the colors or décor we decided to use. So after much debate I decided to work on another idea to show Mr Daisy that having a black “theme” wouldn’t look as nice as the “vintage” theme we had already decided on. On finishing the “mock-up” theme that included black for Mr. Daisy, I very unexpectedly fell in love with it, it was just so much more…….mmmm what’s the word……..vibrant, than the color scheme and theme we had already decided to use. Ideas for the new theme just kept rolling in, one after the other, It felt so good having a fresh idea to work with that I completely forgot about our previous theme. So here is an update on the NEW theme we are going to use….

The new colours - Black, Lime green, Gold, Light pink, Ivory
Don’t Stress Wedding Tips
In Style Weddings www.instyleweddings.com has great articles, tips and ideas for your wedding day to save you time and money which as a result will take down your stress levels. I think there is no better way to add a modern and elegant feel to the day than by adding bright bold colours to your theme.
Get the waitrons to serve colourful cocktails. There is a minimal extra cost, if any at all, to replace champagne or wine with cocktails. Also, why not use something affordable and colourful that guests will notice straight away for the escort-cards? This is the first thing they see before walking into the reception so make a statement. Going bold and vibrant adds glamour and style to any event and can be achieved for next to nothing if you just scan through some ideas. You’d be amazed what you can achieve.

1. Before you choose the size of the paper lanterns, research the size of the room or the tent. You need to consider the height of the room and the placement of the lanterns
2. To create dimension and depth, choose several different sizes of paper lanterns.
3. Hang the lanterns at varied heights for the most striking appearance.
4. White paper lanterns are most popular for weddings and receptions because of their versatility and elegance, whether lit or unlit.
5. Paper lanterns come in a variety of colors, so it’s easy to coordinate with your color scheme and decor. To add sparkle and pizzazz, put low-watt colored light bulbs in white paper lanterns, which looks better than using colored paper lanterns.

I cannot believe we’re into two digit numbers for our wedding countdown. Time has certainly gone by very quickly and I still feel that there is so much to do. Our first 1 hour course with the pastor is next week Tuesday and we’re very excited to see how it goes. It sounds like fun and more importantly he explained how he’ll do exercises with Mr Style and I so we get to know each other more than we thought we knew each other. Sometimes that sounds impossible but I always feel that couples will forever be learning new things about each other which makes for an exciting future!
I hate to say it, but I am STILL stuck on what wedding invitations I want. I have narrowed them down to about 3 different ones but unfortunately haven’t made up my mind. Important tip for the ladies out there – go with the first designs and styles that you like because the more you look the more confusing it gets which I keep saying in all my blogs but don’t follow my own advice! I had my first dress fitting on Saturday and decided on the colour of the bridesmaids dresses as well as the beading and colouring of my dress. I’m not giving away too much about it as alot of friends read my blog and wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise :). Mr Style has taken care of the suits which we are hiring from TOBS www.tobs.co.za. Great service and great prices. My dress maker gave me a piece of the bridesmaid dress fabric so that Mr Style can match the suit trimmings. Read the rest of this entry »
One Wedding & A Million Tasks! Take 3
I’m relieved that my laptop is finally virus free and working so well that I am able to find tons of wedding inspirations to share with everyone. Firstly, let me update you on where we’re at with our wedding plans. After agreeing to the candle centrepieces featured in my earlier blog, I was introduced to an awesome product at a fraction of the cost to get the effect that I really wanted. You can do so much with this product.
They are called floralyte submersibles. They are twist activated, waterproof and battery life is around 8 hours (perfect for a reception timeframe). Colours available orange, amber, red, blue, green, white, teal, purple (UV), RGB (Colour changing) and pink. A stunning option is to put them in gel vase filler which also comes in different colours (suggest clear if you’re using a colour floralyte) or if using them in water, put it at the bottom of the vase and use floating candles. The options are endless.
These products can be found at www.firewaterlight.net. Another great option (however quite a bit more expensive) is the E-Luminator Maxi. If you’d like I can order for you as I get them at wholesale prices.
Dress fitting at Lady Marmalaide
I had been to Bride & Co in Rivonia before but not once did I get as much helpful service as what I got at LM. I even think I found the perfect dress.
I had a rather big entourage with me, my 3 best friends, mom and Mr Daisy-to-be’s mom. My MOH (my little sister) was unable to attend but she was updates constantly via MMS (technology today……isn’t it wonderful).
On arrival we received orange juice and champagne, our own little change room and someone to help pick out a dress. After a few questions about the style and colour I was thinking about, I was brought a few dresses to try on (nothing that I would pick out for myself). I think that’s the idea of going to a place to fit on wedding dresses, is having someone who knows wedding dresses to help you find something that suite your taste and your figure. So I tried on a few dresses….disliked some and LOVED others. After trying on all the dresses I tried on one dress one more time and fell in love. Got the quote for the dress I loved and paid the fitting fee (which was well worth it) and it started to rain. Best friend Daisy said that its a sign that I had found my dress (a sign of good luck). YAY!! All in all it was definitely a well worth it outing, got the help I needed and found the dress that makes me look stunning.
Here are some pics of the dress fitting outing (there’s a lot SORRY!!):
