Durban Bride – The Durban Wedding Directory
Planning a wedding in Durban? The new Durban Wedding Directory – Durban Bride launched last year has seen a surge in suppliers registering with them since their relaunch in June 2009!
124 Days & Counting
My last week has been spent searching for specifically what we want for our decor and to be honest it’s getting more confusing. Although decided on the theme, colours, etc when you start breaking it down to actual table settings, gifts, invitation stationery it gets a little harder because of the thousands of choices you come across on the internet! I’ve decided to start a scrapbook to print out, or tear out if from a magazine, pics and articles pertaining to our theme and then break it down from there. On the one hand it gives you a great visual of how you would like things to look and on the other hand you have a ‘diary’ of your planning to keep along with your wedding pictures and other memorable items! Although we have 124 days to go, they are flying past! I’ve been thinking we have so much to do and it’s overwhelming. I’m so busy going over things in my mind that I totally forget to refer to my checklist which details all monthly tasks and creates complete calm. Remember ladies, when you start feeling that the thinking is getting a bit much, look at your checklist to calm yourself down as it puts it all into perspective. It really is a MUST. Make extra notes on a spreadsheet or on a notepad that you keep with you so when you have a new idea or concern, write it down and refer to it when the time calls for it. You won’t function without a list if you are doing most of it yourself and the overwhelming feeling will definitely cause you to panic and forget things. The biggest difficulty we have faced out of all the planning is who is going to take care of our little boy on our big day and when we go on honeymoon. Read the rest of this entry »
One Wedding & A Million Tasks! Take 2
I am excited to tell you that we have made alot of progress with our wedding plans. I finally got Mr Style to sit still for at least an hour on Sunday to go over a few things but mainly the budget. The budget is too important to be taking on alone and to be honest it’s pretty scary stuff once you start going into detail. We were very strict with our budget when it came to things we wanted, needed and had to have and worked in reverse with our decisions! What we didn’t need we scratched off the list and what we wanted we kept. We always have to make choices in our daily lives about what we need or want and usually what we need we get because it’s obvious, but what we want we leave behind (perfect example is grocery shopping but buying the shoes we always wanted instead!). But we figured that our wedding day will come once in a lifetime (hopefully) so we want what we want! We may not even have a wedding cake because it’s going to cost R3000 and that money could be put towards something more important. We don’t believe the cake will make or break the wedding.
The best thing I did though was start a ‘scrapbook’ saved in a Word document of everything I saw on websites that pertained to our colour scheme and taste. The minute I started seeing things together my ideas started making sense and I found things that I could do myself to save money such as the centre pieces. Here is a glimpse of the effect and theme we are planning which you can go to 3D Deco for www.3ddeco.co.za, contact Michelle.
One Wedding & A Million Tasks! Take 1
We have 5 and a half months to go! Yesterday, the pastor we were hoping would come through for us, contacted Mr Style to say that he is setting up a church and is so busy that he would rather let us down now rather than the last minute. I was horrified to hear this! I am now searching the internet in hopes of finding someone else. Wish us luck! The problem (if that’s an accurate word to use?) is that Mr Style and I don’t practice a specific religion and don’t attend church which makes life difficult when you have a wedding coming up. We did alot of research and found alot of pastors that are happy to do a non denominational wedding. Now to find someone that has some personality and that will take the time to meet us and get to know us over several meetings is another story! We have phoned two already and did not like them instantly. No personality at all and no warmth to them. It’s really important to us to have someone on the same wave length as us and with as much fun & enthusiasm in them as we have. I will definitely keep you posted on who we find and more importantly WHERE we find him … or her.
Last night I pulled out our check list and ticked off what we had attended to and realised how much we hadn’t attended to yet. We haven’t done a complete budget, gone through the menu, chosen the exact style of the bridesmaids dresses or even colours! We haven’t looked at wedding rings, decided on the cake, booked a honeymoon destination. And that’s just the beginning! Here is a pic of the centre piece that we are going for and at least that is ONE thing we’re definite on! If you need info on this, please contact me and I’ll get it for you. It is possible to make yourself if you are careful because it involves hot wax and cold water which is dangerous if the wax explodes. I will definitely be making them myself with the help & guidance of my friend & unofficial wedding planner who has learnt to make them for her events planning company.

Exotic Honeymoon
Long before Mr Honeysuckle and I got engaged, I had this idea that I wanted to go to the Seychelles for my honeymoon one day. I don’t know why I fixated on the Seychelles over any other islandy destination with white beaches and clear blue water, but I just did. My cousin moved there with his wife quite a few years ago, and while it’s not like we’re particularly close (he’s quite a lot older than me) maybe I felt some kind of a link there, or that it would be a safe choice because I could trust them to tell me where to go and where not to stay. And LOOK at it!

Guess what the mailman brought me…
Ok, I lied – The mailman didnt bring it, SAA did.
Yesterday afternoon I got my Post Office slip, and my heart jumped. At long last my lingerie came! I was soooo Happy!! And Excited, I couldn’t wait to open the parcel. WOW, all the way From Hong Kong!! WOOHOOO

Get “Carried” away
I recently got an email from Edgars about their fablous “Sex and the City” range which is too-cute. Some of the dresses in this collection are really simple, but with a few smart accessories and some bling and blang, they can really be dressed up – which got me thinking… The perfect Honeymoon outfit.

When we went to Mauritius for our honeymoon I took so many clothes, and only ended up wearing a few items. So, I really think that having simple clothes on holiday/honeymoon is a must, but take along outfits that can be glammed up, that way you have a fabulous little number for the evening or for when you and your new man hit the town.
Just married beach slops
These are awesome! We used them for my friends beach wedding and they were absolutely divine. They come in red and black for the guys and pink and white for the girls. When u walk in the sand they leave behind the wording just married printed in the sand. These were also so divine for the photos. And divine to go on beach destination honeymones!!!
Our Mauritius Honeymoon
I was extremely spoilt for or honeymoon. Hubby took me to Mauritius and we spent two magnificent weeks in the four-star LeMauricia hotel. We only left for our honeymoon two weeks after the wedding, but Hubby tried to keep it a secret and managed to keep it he slipped up two days before.
Anyway, it was still very much a surprise to me, because I hadn’t researched the place online so I was still in suspense until we got there – it was the best holiday ever and I would definitely recommend the LeMauricia hotel.
What to pack for your honeymoon
My fairytale is still alive and tomorrow we board the plane to start our two week honeymoon. So, as you can imagine I have been hunting the Internet to try and find some articles and tips on what to pack for the honeymoon, and came across these great tips and sites…
