So this is my new fab find:) they certainly didn’t have these unusual toppers when I got married  I have noticed a big trend in the last few months for unusual cake toppers and the ones with the couples fishing, shopping etc are so expensive and I think are R750!!!!  So I thought I would look around and see what else was out there.

I looked at ordering one for my friends wedding off a website in London and they were 99 POUNDS – ouch!  So I thought I would get someone to make them for me

Alternatives to bouquet throwing

I am absolutely not a fan of the bouquet and garter throwing traditions so I have been searching high and low for alternatives and have come across some very cute ideas.  My favourite is the longest married bouquet toss, but if you want to give your bouquet to your mom then you can award a stunning bottle of wine to the longest married.  Here are the ideas found on http://ezinearticles.com/?Six-Alternative-Bridal-Bouquet-Toss-Ideas&id=122526:

  • Wish Come True Bouquet Toss — Invite all the women onto the dance floor, married and single. Ask them all to make a wish right as the bouquet is tossed and whoever catches it will get their wish.
  • Fortune Bouquet Toss — Invite everyone onto the dance floor and have a bouquet that consists of several small bunches of flowers are simply held together in your hand. On each bunch, have a handwritten “fortune” attached to it that you made up. When you throw the flower bunches in the air, they break apart so several people will get a “fortune” bouquet. Before throwing a break apart bouquet make sure they are easily separated and not entwined together so they really do break apart in the air.

    Hey Mr DJ!

So last night we met our DJ for the first time. He managed to arrive extremely early, which meant that I was still cooking (read as: warming up last night’s schnitzel and microwaving two potatoes) and so I was therefore a tad frazzled. However, he seemed nice and at least he wasn’t late (I abhor lateness), so we sat down with his massive folder of cds and started chatting about what we wanted.

    Guests

It seems like all of my latest brides are very concerned with entertaining their guest after the ceremony ( during the photography time).

It is very important to make your guests feel special. People have to make an effort to attend a wedding (think of those need to travel to attend. Naturally, your head would spin from thinking how to accommodate everyone’s special needs. The out-of-towners, guests with small children, elderly… work colleagues…

    Here are some suggestions:

    Sparklers for your wedding

We had sparklers for our wedding, and we asked our guests to light them during our first dance.  It looked stunning and I managed to find really nice ones that were about half a metre long.  The little “Spur” sparklers were no good. I got a whole pack and they burnt out before they started going, so they’re sitting in my kitchen draw.

The only thing I found with the sparklers is that I couldnt find a nice way to display them, being so big, they really would look completely out of place on the tables.

    How about an iPod wedding?

Here’s an interesting concept, how about an iPod wedding?  No joke, its been done before and some say it’s just as effective as having a DJ spin some tunes at your wedding – talk about a technological advancement…..

    Music

Instead of having someone sing or having the formal church ceremony we played three songs. When I walked into the chapel the song played was Celine Dion – I want you to need me. When we signed the register the song that was played was David Gray – the One I love. The song that played when we walked out the chapel was Kci & jojo – All my life. It was incredible and added such a nice touch to the wedding! :)

    Ceremony Music

Im trying to workout my ceremony music and see which songs etc I want to have played at the ceremony.  We’re going to have an organist (although the Sax would have been my first choice but budget calls).  I cant say that Im a big fan of the traditional bridal march – I want something with a difference.

    Any advice or different ideas?
