I looked at ordering one for my friends wedding off a website in London and they were 99 POUNDS – ouch! So I thought I would get someone to make them for me

Top wedding trends for 2009!
This article is brought to you by Emily Tanner at World of Wedding Favours.
The question on every bride & wedding planner’s lips is, ‘What will be the hot wedding colour trends for 2009?’ 2007 and 2008 have seen our brides showcasing the following colour trends; Soft Greens with White, Lilac with Purple tones, Chocolate Brown and anything in Monochrome Black & White. These colours have been so popular and may still continue into 2009 weddings & events, though an explosion in fresher, brighter colours is more likely.
In contrast to the softer more subtle shades of last year, the forthcoming trends for 2009 will be far more exotic, brightly coloured and – believe it or not – almost luminous! Now before you start to panic, you do not need to go for anything too ghastly or too dominating. However, any bride who wishes to strut her stuff in style in 2009 needs to make a bold splash of colour if she wishes to remain in-line with other fashionistas!

One Wedding & A Million Tasks! Take 2
I am excited to tell you that we have made alot of progress with our wedding plans. I finally got Mr Style to sit still for at least an hour on Sunday to go over a few things but mainly the budget. The budget is too important to be taking on alone and to be honest it’s pretty scary stuff once you start going into detail. We were very strict with our budget when it came to things we wanted, needed and had to have and worked in reverse with our decisions! What we didn’t need we scratched off the list and what we wanted we kept. We always have to make choices in our daily lives about what we need or want and usually what we need we get because it’s obvious, but what we want we leave behind (perfect example is grocery shopping but buying the shoes we always wanted instead!). But we figured that our wedding day will come once in a lifetime (hopefully) so we want what we want! We may not even have a wedding cake because it’s going to cost R3000 and that money could be put towards something more important. We don’t believe the cake will make or break the wedding.
The best thing I did though was start a ‘scrapbook’ saved in a Word document of everything I saw on websites that pertained to our colour scheme and taste. The minute I started seeing things together my ideas started making sense and I found things that I could do myself to save money such as the centre pieces. Here is a glimpse of the effect and theme we are planning which you can go to 3D Deco for www.3ddeco.co.za, contact Michelle.
Glorious Cake
One good thing is my laptop seems to be ok (for now). Let me get typing before I have to hand it in for repairs and no better topic to start with than glorious cake! We are still deciding on the cake and the thing with wedding cakes is that there are so many beautiful creations that I can’t help scanning dozens of websites and pictures which becomes very confusing. It’s part of the excitement though and I’m having alot of fun! This brings me to one of my favourite sites www.wedding-flowers-and-reception-ideas.com. Be sure to read their tips on cake budgets. Please also visit www.cakelava.com. Wow!! Their creations are out of this world! The pics below are from Wedding Flowers and Reception Ideas.
Mad Hatters Hens Party
Aghh – where to start…… Ive been wanting to post this for absolute ages now and just couldnt as I was scared my bride to Be Kim D would see the theme before the batchelorette Party. So the 3 bridesmaids got together (me being one of them) and decided we were going to have a Mad Hatters Tea Party for the “Hens Night”. What a blast this was and such an awesome theme.

So, we started off with a cupcake save the date Magnet with a mad hatters hat on the side.
Our cake
We were undecided about the cake. First I wanted to do mini pavlovas but were told that the meringue would go soft. Then we wanted to do mini Chateax Gateux which needed to be defrosted first, so we had that as desert. Then we wanted to do mini petit fours but a lot of Brides choose that option. So in the end we decided on mini chocolate eclairs filled with milk tart mixture. They were divine – the only problem is we bought the bridal knife set and didn’t think about the cutting of the cake even. We went the step further though by having the song picked out for this event. :) Wouldn’t it be nice – Beach Boys.
Let them eat cake!
With only a colour scheme decided on, (yup – no venue, no photographer, no dress…) my thoughts turn to that most wonderful of things, the cake! I’m not a fruitcake kinda gal, so when I found this little slice of chocoholic’s heaven how could I not share?
Cake Speak & Cake Themes
Some divine cakes I found with the theme of Black and white night at the Ritz and a Tiffany blue theme. With all the accessories to go with it. Cakes made by Waheeda – From Sugar and Spice in Windermere Centre in The Bridal Shop.
Also when ordering cake – its good to know
Cake-speak
It helps to learn the lingo. These are the most-frequently-thrown-around terms in wedding cakes. Buttercream: The creamy (and more delicious) kind of icing that stays smooth. It can be coloured or flavoured, and is used for decorating and as a filling. Fondant: A sweet, elastic icing made of sugar, corn syrup and gelatine. It’s rolled out and “draped” over the cake and has a porcelain finish. A fondant cake shouldn’t be refrigerated. Marzipan: A paste made of ground almonds, sugar and egg whites. It’s used to mould decorations onto the cake. It can also be rolled into sheets and used as icing. Ganache: A sweet, rich chocolate – denser than mousse but not as dense as fudge, used as an icing or filling. Because it’s made of chocolate and heavy cream, it’s not ideal for hot weather. Torte: A dense cake that doesn’t use leavening agents such as baking powder or baking soda Dragees: Round, edible sugar balls coated in silver or gold and used for decorative purposes Piping: Method of making decorative details such as borders, leaves, flowers, etc, using a pastry bag and various metal tips.
My cake just won!
I wouldn’t have thought that a competition with no actual prize could get me so excited, but I am sooooooo happy that my cake won in the Facebook Wedding Pictures Contest….

I am absolutely addicted to this group, and it has some stunning photos with great ideas on it. If you haven’t already, check it out on Facebook.
I gave Arriba choclates a picture of the cake I wanted, and they did a lovely job of bringing it to life. It was the best tasting cake, apart from its obvious good looks :P
