Splendid Affairs February Issue is out now
Splendid Affairs is a free bridal publication packed with inspirational ideas, wedding planning tips and real life weddings.
This month’s bridal fashion shoot took place at Shepstone Gardens, featuring bridal wear by Dimity and Wedding Connexion. Sam Scaife of Lashline exercised her make-up artistry on our models, whilst Kat Forsyth’s photographic talent can be seen throughout the pages of this digital magazine.
This wedding magazine is put together by Evegenia Poplett of Splendid Affairs Wedding Planning Company.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
I don’t think so… Seems to me beauty is very much in the eye of the photographer, brilliant editing, and a little gift called Photoshop…
So I’m super excited, have all my bridal magazines with post-it’s sticking out at every venue with a view, and I am ready to start clicking my way to my perfect venue… Or so I thought.
The first page opens with scenes of dewdrops, glistening on a leaf, the sun behind it, getting ready to burst from its cocoon of night… And I’m thinking, yes but where would we have the reception? Surely they don’t expect me to fly all the way to Cape Town, for a more serious look, based on a beautifully decorated biscuit, sitting snuggly next to its teacup? I get it, you serve tea in pretty nice cups, but what does the room look like where we will spend our first night as Mr. & Mrs. together? Read the rest of this entry »
Dress fitting at Lady Marmalaide
I had been to Bride & Co in Rivonia before but not once did I get as much helpful service as what I got at LM. I even think I found the perfect dress.
I had a rather big entourage with me, my 3 best friends, mom and Mr Daisy-to-be’s mom. My MOH (my little sister) was unable to attend but she was updates constantly via MMS (technology today……isn’t it wonderful).
On arrival we received orange juice and champagne, our own little change room and someone to help pick out a dress. After a few questions about the style and colour I was thinking about, I was brought a few dresses to try on (nothing that I would pick out for myself). I think that’s the idea of going to a place to fit on wedding dresses, is having someone who knows wedding dresses to help you find something that suite your taste and your figure. So I tried on a few dresses….disliked some and LOVED others. After trying on all the dresses I tried on one dress one more time and fell in love. Got the quote for the dress I loved and paid the fitting fee (which was well worth it) and it started to rain. Best friend Daisy said that its a sign that I had found my dress (a sign of good luck). YAY!! All in all it was definitely a well worth it outing, got the help I needed and found the dress that makes me look stunning.
Here are some pics of the dress fitting outing (there’s a lot SORRY!!):

Get Into Shape!
For the past week I’ve been giving some serious thought to how I am going to get into shape for our wedding day. I then thought, why only our wedding day? Why do you need a big event to do something that should be important for your general well being no matter what time of the year! When I was pregnant I put on 22kgs and lost alot of it after birth as mostly was water. I still however want to lose another 10 to 15kgs to get back to where I used to be so I’m taking action. Not only for my wedding day, but to better my future health and well being. After surfing the internet for personal trainers I came across (what I believe) is the greatest concept. I thought this was the best UNKNOWN discovery until I saw it advertised in Shape Magazine within 2 hours of finding it on a website! Firming, preserving and tanning
Now that I am having my dress made, That Special Moment’s website really stood out. I noticed their ad on Facebook and thought I would share their info with you if you haven’t already heard of them. They offer a storage option for your wedding dress that preserves the fabric and colour. Read more on www.thatspecialmoment.com.
Wedding Day Part IV: Prettifying.
I left my parents and bridesmaids in the chapel, scattering petals and setting up candles, and I rushed back to the honeymoon suite where Mel (aka the Honeysuckle landlady) was waiting to do my makeup. Mel is a costumer and makeup artist by profession, and she offered way back when to do my wedding day makeup, as well as that of my bridesmaids, as her wedding gift to us. Since I’d seen how much makeup artists charge, especially to go out to a venue, I was thrilled to agree.
You might recall that this was my makeup inspiration:

Here I am with all my red bits and black circles covered up with, um, whatever it is they use:

It is never too early to start…
Every bride wants to look her very best for THE day. This often means loosing a few pounds and toning up. The sooner you begin, the closer you will be to the best you for the day.
WIN your wedding make up

I love Makeup is running a competition for Gauteng brides getting married between September and November of this year. They are giving 3 lucky brides-to-be, one for each month, free makovers for the bride and two additional faces on the wedding day, excluding the trial and travelling costs. The package is worth R900 each.
To stand a chance to win, brides must visit their website I love Makeup, and answer this simple question: At which Make-Up school did Farhana qualify in Advanced Make-Up Artistry?
The answer along with the brides contact details, including the wedding date, must be emailed to info@ilovemakeup.co.za before 1 September 2008. Three winners will randomly be chosen, one for each month. Ts & Cs apply and the competition is only open to brides getting married in Johannesburg.
Good Luck Ladies!!!
Hair Trials
Or, in my case, the trial of finding a hairstylist. Yep, that’s right – I’m two and a half months away and I STILL don’t have a stylist. I feel like I’ve been a bit lazy about this, but honestly everyone keeps quoting me exorbitant travel costs that make me run for the hills and never want to come out of my safe little cave. I really want to get my hair done at the venue, because in the morning I have to oversee the setting-up of the reception hall and chapel, to make sure that everyone keeps in line with my vision (because it’s myyyyy daaaaay!!!). If I then have to get in my car and drive off somewhere to do my hair, and then drive back again, it’s (a) going to waste pretty much an hour of my day just on travel, and (b) tire me out even more, which is really not a good plan!
Which is why the stylists can quote you R1000 to come out to the venue and get away with it.
A few months ago I met up with a hairdresser who is a friend of a friend. He arrived half an hour late, didn’t answer his phone either of the times I called him during that time, and then proceeded to tell me he didn’t hear his phone ring because he was driving. Later in the conversation he mentioned that he lives five minutes away from the place where we were meeting – which means that if it took him 5 minutes to get there, he was still at home BOTH times I phoned him. Needless to say, I didn’t want to hire an unreliable liar for the most important day of my life, so I brushed him off.
The next two people were too expensive, and my regular hairdresser doesn’t travel out because she works from home and has a baby.
So in the last month I’ve just pretty much given up…which is BAD, very bad! On the upside, at least I know what sort of style I want! Something mostly down, lightly curled, and covering my ears, which are my least favourite part of my anatomy (followed swiftly by my knees). Something like these:
Wedding Gowns and Makeup Under One Roof
I absolutely love weddings and I’m thrilled to be able to be a part of so many of them(I’m a makeup artist). I’m also helping my sister plan her wedding and seeing all the wedding goodies out there makes me wanna get married again! Or at least have another reception but my husband won’t hear of it! The best part is the dress and now I’ve found a way to surround myself with lots and lots of dresses! As part of my business I now sell wedding gowns. I also know how expensive they can be so I decided to sell previously owned gowns. These are awesome ‘cos you can buy a gorgeous designer gown for half the price! And of course, I can do your makeup as well. If you are looking for an affordable gown or if you have a dress you would like to sell, please contact me on info@ilovemakeup.co.za. I am Jhb based. Pictures will be on my website soon, http://www.ilovemakeup.co.za
