Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

I don’t think so… Seems to me beauty is very much in the eye of the photographer, brilliant editing, and a little gift called Photoshop…

So I’m super excited, have all my bridal magazines with post-it’s sticking out at every venue with a view, and I am ready to start clicking my way to my perfect venue… Or so I thought.

The first page opens with scenes of dewdrops, glistening on a leaf, the sun behind it, getting ready to burst from its cocoon of night… And I’m thinking, yes but where would we have the reception? Surely they don’t expect me to fly all the way to Cape Town, for a more serious look, based on a beautifully decorated biscuit, sitting snuggly next to its teacup? I get it, you serve tea in pretty nice cups, but what does the room look like where we will spend our first night as Mr. & Mrs. together? Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s start at the very beginning. It’s a very good place to start.

So, the guy has been met. Love has happened, and the engagement ring is shimmering oh so proudly on my finger. Bliss.

But now what? Where do you start with something so big? I mean, movies have been made, books have been written, fairy tales have been told and retold a million times over. Someone feeling a little bit of pressure? I mean, it is, after all, my wedding day! The day little girls across the world dream of, the day I get to be a queen the entire day, and in my books, the 3 weeks leading up to it as well, I mean you have to milk it a bit… The day I have to plan? Lace parasol umbrella

beach parasols

There’s not much hotter in wedding accessories now than the wedding parasol.  SA brides are discovering that the parasol comes in all sizes, fabrics and designs and they are a fabulous way of enhancing the look of your wedding party without the cost sky-rocketing!

The 3 hottest designs right now are:

* The natural-look parasol in a natural cotton fabric or a natural fibre paper which enhances the organic feel of a beach, outdoors, green or chocolate-themed wedding. We have woven wattle and seashells into the natural fabric parasols before, but you could equally have an artistic friend paint some beautiful natural-environment designs on the paper to create a truly unique look.

* The Vintage-inspired European white Lace parasol.  Intricate and full of old-world charm, these parasols enhance a vintage or garden wedding.

* An Oriental Parasol looks equally at home at an Asian-inspired wedding, a beach wedding and a garden wedding. Use these gorgeous, colourful designs to complement the colours in your attendant’s dresses. As they are usually cost-effective, you might even like to provide these for each guest. What a stunning all-guest photo it makes to have everyone holding a parasol in a colour which matches your theme!

Let them eat cake!

With only a colour scheme decided on, (yup – no venue, no photographer, no dress…) my thoughts turn to that most wonderful of things, the cake! I’m not a fruitcake kinda gal, so when I found this little slice of chocoholic’s heaven how could I not share?

A day at the beach

If I lived in my perfect fantasy world, getting married on the beach would have been my ultimate dream.  Ahh, the waves gently crashing, the warm sand between my perfectly pedicured feet, sunny skies and well, to sum it all up, pure paradise!

I’d wear all white (surprise, surprise), something thats fresh and flowy and I might even go for a bikini as a top with a beautiful skirt?  The guys would be in beige or white, preferably linnen with the hem of their pants messily rolled up, revealing thier ankles.  I’d have my hair in curls, my make up minimal and go barefoot.  Of course, blue would be the prominent colour, maybe even a splash of lilac and yellow.

There are two big trends happening with weddings today; one of them is the destination wedding where we get to take a small group of our family and friends to a wonderful secluded island or destination where we get to spend wonderful quality time with one another, and the second big trend is getting married barefoot on the beach.
