The NEW Theme
Today its exactly 7 months to the BIG day, we now have the venue sorted….YAY!!!! And we had decided on the décor and colors.
Everything’s going well you think…….mmmmm well it is but with a twist.
Mr Daisy decided that we should add some black into the picture and black doesn’t mix well at all with the colors or décor we decided to use. So after much debate I decided to work on another idea to show Mr Daisy that having a black “theme” wouldn’t look as nice as the “vintage” theme we had already decided on. On finishing the “mock-up” theme that included black for Mr. Daisy, I very unexpectedly fell in love with it, it was just so much more…….mmmm what’s the word……..vibrant, than the color scheme and theme we had already decided to use. Ideas for the new theme just kept rolling in, one after the other, It felt so good having a fresh idea to work with that I completely forgot about our previous theme. So here is an update on the NEW theme we are going to use….

The new colours - Black, Lime green, Gold, Light pink, Ivory
A change of plan
Its been a while since my last blog post (had to study for exams) and oh my word……have plans changed.
It all started a few weeks before I had to really start focusing on the studying. Wedding plans were going great, on track, till a certain phone call sent me into a fluttery panic. Our budget had – due to unexpected reasons – been cut by more than half now you can imagine how a bride that has done most of her planning feels when told that the budget is almost all gone. After a few days of being a bit depro and contemplating getting married in court, I pulled myself together and started re-planning a really budget wise wedding. I still wanted to use the colour scheme and the flowers I had in mind but the venue was going to have to change to something well, more affordable for the Average Joe.
I started looking for almost unheard-of venues, looked for places that don’t normally cater for weddings but that can on request. Eventually I found one or two quaint little places but still my budget would be too high (I’m pretty much working with a non existent budget here).
Mmmmm….I could get married in my church’s hall and then find a banqueting hall for the reception, which would work in well with the budget. Searched a bit and found a hall not too far from the church and not expensive at all (it’s on a plot and if you are looking for a nice, informal, ‘almal kuier saam’ reception then this would be the place for you). By this time budgeting was my main priority and planning became very tiring and stressful. Even though we had found this place on the plot it wasn’t quite what Mr Daisy-to-be had in mind….
Back to the flippen drawing board…aaaaaarrrrgghhhh!

Dress fitting at Lady Marmalaide
I had been to Bride & Co in Rivonia before but not once did I get as much helpful service as what I got at LM. I even think I found the perfect dress.
I had a rather big entourage with me, my 3 best friends, mom and Mr Daisy-to-be’s mom. My MOH (my little sister) was unable to attend but she was updates constantly via MMS (technology today……isn’t it wonderful).
On arrival we received orange juice and champagne, our own little change room and someone to help pick out a dress. After a few questions about the style and colour I was thinking about, I was brought a few dresses to try on (nothing that I would pick out for myself). I think that’s the idea of going to a place to fit on wedding dresses, is having someone who knows wedding dresses to help you find something that suite your taste and your figure. So I tried on a few dresses….disliked some and LOVED others. After trying on all the dresses I tried on one dress one more time and fell in love. Got the quote for the dress I loved and paid the fitting fee (which was well worth it) and it started to rain. Best friend Daisy said that its a sign that I had found my dress (a sign of good luck). YAY!! All in all it was definitely a well worth it outing, got the help I needed and found the dress that makes me look stunning.
Here are some pics of the dress fitting outing (there’s a lot SORRY!!):

Explaining what I like and dislike

Colour scheme – version 1
The Internet is a wonderful place isnt it? I have spent countless hours looking at wedding ideas from other real weddings. So many colours, so many wonderful ideas, so very very confusing.
With all these ideas out there its hard to keep track of what I like more or less of. To make life a little easier and to keep the Bridal party on the same level of thinking, I have compiled a colour scheme chart so that there can at least be a standard set of colours to work with.
We still have to have our first Bridal party get-together, but before then I want to have a better idea of what Mr Daisy and myself want, otherwise it will just be a waisted brainstorm session. That reminds me, I still need to make a to do list for everyone.

Here is a better explanation of how the colours and ideas go together
Some of the colours are definitely going to change or going to be a shade darker or lighter.

…and Bergvallei stood out
Started with some Googling to find a venue that we would both love and that would suit our budget.
I first stumbled across a very nice looking venue, Valverde. With its magnificent Renaissance Garden and its budget friendly rates I thought this would be the venue. AS everyone knows though finding the perfect venue doesnt happen the first time round. On visiting Velverde I was disappointed to see the magnificent statues were small compared to the photo’s I saw on the website, and with that I completely lost interest in the venue.
I decided to hit a well known venue next to see if their photo’s and the real thing ‘look the same size’. Toadbury Hall……..oh what an absolute STUNNING STUNNING venue. The chapel was amazing, reception hall perfect, the price…………well that’s where Toadbury Hall got Scratched off my list. If I won the lotto I would Definitely use Toadbury Hall, but we all know that’s not going to happen.
Back to Google Search….
My next approach to this whole venue search thing was to find a venue that didn’t necessarily have weddings as their main “function type”. After days and days of searching, a million emails and rates that are way over budget I eventually found Bergvallei
.
Rates looked good and the pics on the web looked amazing. Phoned and set up a date to view the venue. We went to have a look at the Venue in about August ‘08 and WOW it was so green! The real thing was 100 times more than what was on the website, its Cape dutch style was breathtaking and the best of all IT FITS THE BUDGET.
King Protea – Flowers Flowers Flowers
The unique protea is one of the oldest flowers on the planet, dating back at least 300 million years ago. This flower derives its beauty and personality from its thick stalk and strong, radiant flowers. This flower has become the symbol of strength. Send a powerful symbol of strength and courage to someone who has proven their mettle.

WOW isn’t it beautiful! This is going to be my bouquet, one BIG king Protea, with some twiggy things around it….ooooh and some ‘crystal’ thingies on the points or somewhere.
Thanks for the ‘crystal’ idea BF Daisy.
I’m still considering whether I want to use King Proteas in my table setting or if I want to use a smaller protea.
I have opted to do my own flowers. Good to save on money but a killer when it comes to ideas and finding flowers that match. Luckily for me I have my mom and BF Daisy (what would i do without you guys).
Anyway…….
Getting the Groom-to-be involved
Wedding theme? Color scheme? Flowers? and Food?As a bride questions like this make your head tick, everything has to be perfect; everything has to ‘blend’ in. For the groom though, all the planning decisions are not really his idea of fun and the excitement of the wedding seems to fade away a little. Now don’t get all huffy puffy about it, he is still very excited about marrying you but as far as the planning goes he would rather leave that in your capable hands.
Many brides do however want to get the groom involved in the planning, not only because it’s his day as well but because planning a wedding is a huge task for one person to tackle alone. The trick to getting your groom involved is to give him ‘tasks’ that will interest him. Ask him directly for his help with the wedding plans, let him know how important his input is to you, and that you can’t do without his help. Men like to be needed.
