Wedding Wishing Well
I have mentioned previously that we already have an established home (and a 3 year old child) so definitely have all that we need. We knew we wanted the cash gift option but the tradition around asking for cash is too outdated for us and we wanted something different – or at least a different way of asking. I came across the wedding wishing well concept accidentally, and although it may not be new to some, it was definitely new to me and I loved the idea. For this reason the following poem (found on www.bridesofaustralia.com) will be found in our invitations:
More than just kisses so far we’ve shared
Our home has been made with love and care
Most things we need we’ve already got
Like a toaster and kettle, pans and pots
A wishing well we thought would be great
(but only if you wish to participate)
A gift of money is placed in the well
Then make a wish … but do not tell
Once we’ve replaced the old with the new
We can look back and say it was thanks to you!
And in return for your kindness we’re sure
that one day soon you’ll get what you wished for!
And some ideas for the wishing well on the gift table at the reception are (always remember it doesn’t necessarily have to look like a wishing well as guests will get the idea and it depends on your style):

We also asked our guests to give us cash instead of presents, but heard some horror stories leading up to the wedding, where cheques and envelopes filled with cash went missing, so we decided to give my mom in law the duty of “Cheque collecting”….. But anyways, I heard a really great tip from my venue, although it was too late for us to use it, it’s still a great idea.
One of their brides had a bird cage, with a lock for their guests to slip the envelopes into. This is actually quite a nice idea because, unless they tip the cage over, you dont run the risk of having your cheques go missing :)
Yes, that’s a common problem. Shocking! You would expect the guests at your wedding are pretty honest considering you know them! I like the idea in pic 1 and 3 as they can be sealed and no one can stick their hands in. Theft, sadly, must be thought of when using this idea.
