Honey, I shrunk the dress
It’s March, almost a year ago since I became Mrs Tulip and believe it or not, my wedding dress has just been hanging in the attic. It’s sad I know, but it was too big to put it anywhere else. I had already taken it to the cleaners to get it dry cleaned before I put it away. The other day, my heart sank when I saw it lying on the floor – like an old, dirty thing you care nothing for, so I decided this weekend that it was time to put “her” to sleep. I know my daughter will more than likely not want it on her wedding day, but I’m not saving it for my unborn children – it’s mine and I want to keep her looking gorgeous.
My mom had sent me some vacuum seal bags from my aunt in the US, so as sceptical as I was, I decided to try them out. Here is the story of how I “shrunk” my dress – literally…

So this is my wedding dress, together with my tule petticoat and my vale laying on the bed

I folded my dress nicely before putting it in the plastic vacuum bag. I wanted to be able to see the design from the outside

That’s how the thick just the dress was when folded

Everything shoved into the vacuum bag – nicely of course!

Everything in the bag, locked and ready to be deflated

Ready, steady, nozzle

No air!

Check how thin it is now – Super thin

View from the top. This way I can at least see it an remember it
So the dress sucking was a success, what else can I preserve from my wedding day?

I wanted to keep these, they were the little things that decorate and cover our “Lambades” – the candles that stood at the alter in the church

and the the ring cushions

Here they are, cushions and lambades covers sucked in a bag. I also added the little favour doll, for keep sakes

Here’s a close up of the doll, I figured this would keep her looking perfect years to come

Everything fitted so nicely into this box. In here is (believe it or not): My wedding dress, vale, and tulle bit from under the dress, lambades covers, ring cushions, favour doll as well as our wedding guest book, cake knife and lifter, our “stefana” (the crowns we wore on our head during the ceremony) and my hair clips all safely tucked away in the top of hubby’s cupboard.

SERIOUSLY WOW!
Haha, good plan! Those things are going to be seriously creased if you ever take them out, though! My dress is still hanging in a plastic dress-bag. I keep thinking I’m going to do a mild trash the dress shoot with it, but of course I haven’t yet!
Wow – awesome my shop would love to sell these – how can we get them???
where do we get those bags?
