Winners of our photo competition

Last year in August, Bridesbuzzing.com, together with Photographer Yvette De Beer from Innovate Photo ran a competition where we offered Brides to be the chance to win their wedding photos for free.  Although none of the submissions were between August and October, Yvette liked Gezell Coetzee’s submission so much, she decided to make her a lucky winner and offer her her wedding pics for free!

Gezell and her husband Taswell were married on the 14th March 2009 at  Vredenheim Wine Estate Stellenbosch.  Below are here are some of Innovate Photos beautiful wedding pics of the couple on their special day.

Dress fitting at Lady Marmalaide

About a month ago I went dress fitting at Lady Marmalaide….

I had been to Bride & Co in Rivonia before but not once did I get as much helpful service as what I got at LM. I even think I found the perfect dress.

I had a rather big entourage with me, my 3 best friends, mom and Mr Daisy-to-be’s mom. My MOH (my little sister) was unable to attend but she was updates constantly via MMS (technology today……isn’t it wonderful).

On arrival we received orange juice and champagne, our own little change room and someone to help pick out a dress. After a few questions about the style and colour I was thinking about, I was brought a few dresses to try on (nothing that I would pick out for myself). I think that’s the idea of going to a place to fit on wedding dresses, is having someone who knows wedding dresses to help you find something that suite your taste and your figure. So I tried on a few dresses….disliked some and LOVED others. After trying on all the dresses I tried on one dress one more time and fell in love. Got the quote for the dress I loved and paid the fitting fee (which was well worth it) and it started to rain. Best friend Daisy said that its a sign that I had found my dress (a sign of good luck). YAY!! All in all it was definitely a well worth it outing, got the help I needed and found the dress that makes me look stunning.

Here are some pics of the dress fitting outing (there’s a lot SORRY!!):

One Wedding & A Million Tasks! Take 2

I am excited to tell you that we have made alot of progress with our wedding plans.  I finally got Mr Style to sit still for at least an hour on Sunday to go over a few things but mainly the budget.  The budget is too important to be taking on alone and to be honest it’s pretty scary stuff once you start going into detail.  We were very strict with our budget when it came to things we wanted, needed and had to have and worked in reverse with our decisions!  What we didn’t need we scratched off the list and what we wanted we kept.  We always have to make choices in our daily lives about what we need or want and usually what we need we get because it’s obvious, but what we want we leave behind (perfect example is grocery shopping but buying the shoes we always wanted instead!).  But we figured that our wedding day will come once in a lifetime (hopefully) so we want what we want!  We may not even have a wedding cake because it’s going to cost R3000 and that money could be put towards something more important.  We don’t believe the cake will make or break the wedding.

The best thing I did though was start a ’scrapbook’ saved in a Word document of everything I saw on websites that pertained to our colour scheme and taste.  The minute I started seeing things together my ideas started making sense and I found things that I could do myself to save money such as the centre pieces.  Here is a glimpse of the effect and theme we are planning which you can go to 3D Deco for www.3ddeco.co.za, contact Michelle.

Get Into Shape!

For the past week I’ve been giving some serious thought to how I am going to get into shape for our wedding day.  I then thought, why only our wedding day?  Why do you need a big event to do something that should be important for your general well being no matter what time of the year!  When I was pregnant I put on 22kgs and  lost alot of it after birth as mostly was water.  I still however want to lose another 10 to 15kgs to get back to where I used to be so I’m taking action.  Not only for my wedding day, but to better my future health and well being.  After surfing the internet for personal trainers I came across (what I believe) is the greatest concept.  I thought this was the best UNKNOWN discovery until I saw it advertised in Shape Magazine within 2 hours of finding it on a website!  Check out Adventure Boot Camp For Women www.adventurebootcamp.co.za.

Toadbury Hall & Splendid Affairs Winter Special

draft2comp

This week Toadbury Hall & Splendid Affairs launched “Fairy Tale Winter Wedding” Special which will run over the months of June, July, August 2009. This special is aimed at providing the bride and the groom with a team of top professionals in the industry to make their wedding day a fairy tale! Each service provider submitted a Winter Special – thus saving a couple R35 000!

However, we recognize that even with these special prices some couples will think they cannot afford to get married at Toadbury Hall. This is simply not true! I would like to suggest another way to get married at Toadbury Hall… have a day time wedding!

Day Time weddings are becoming increasingly popular, especially in winter. South African winter days are glorious! Your photos will be phenomenal, and neither you nor your guests will freeze! You can choose to have a Branch/High Tea Menu, or a Picnic Menu (served Buffet Style).

Bird Cage

bird-cage1

Bird Cages bring in the vintage element into the wedding. You do not need to have an entire bird cage wedding, as it can become a bit creepy and not so stylish at all. However, having a few bird cages around the place can bring in romance, intrigue and definitely class. Consider having bird cages hung around the outside area of your wedding, and on the gift table, reception cards table, or at the bar.

Bird Cages are also an excellent element if you are having a Shabby Chic Wedding. For this theme, the bird cage needs to be simple, less ornate but heavily decorated with roses.

Bird Cages are an excellent solution to the guest book. You can place a tray with wishing cards and pens next to the cage. Once the guests have written on the wishing card, they can drop them into the cage.

Alternatively, you can use a bird cage to collect money envelopes, if you are expecting money instead of the presents.

One Wedding & A Million Tasks! Take 1

We have 5 and a half months to go!  Yesterday, the pastor we were hoping would come through for us, contacted Mr Style to say that he is setting up a church and is so busy that he would rather let us down now rather than the last minute. I was horrified to hear this!  I am now searching the internet in hopes of finding someone else.  Wish us luck!  The problem (if that’s an accurate word to use?) is that Mr Style and I don’t practice a specific religion and don’t attend church which makes life difficult when you have a wedding coming up.  We did alot of research and found alot of pastors that are happy to do a non denominational wedding.  Now to find someone that has some personality and that will take the time to meet us and get to know us over several meetings is another story!  We have phoned two already and did not like them instantly.  No personality at all and no warmth to them.  It’s really important to us to have someone on the same wave length as us and with as much fun & enthusiasm in them as we have.  I will definitely keep you posted on who we find and more importantly WHERE we find him … or her.

Last night I pulled out our check list and ticked off what we had attended to and realised how much we hadn’t attended to yet. We haven’t done a complete budget, gone through the menu, chosen the exact style of the bridesmaids dresses or even colours!  We haven’t looked at wedding rings, decided on the cake, booked a honeymoon destination.  And that’s just the beginning!  Here is a pic of the centre piece that we are going for and at least that is ONE thing we’re definite on!  If you need info on this, please contact me and I’ll get it for you.  It is possible to make yourself if you are careful because it involves hot wax and cold water which is dangerous if the wax explodes.  I will definitely be making them myself with the help & guidance of my friend & unofficial wedding planner who has learnt to make them for her events planning company.

Hen party planning

I know that there are many people who can share responsibility with lots of other people when getting a task done. I am not one of these people. I like to be in control; make all the decisions; and only delegate where necessary. Not a nice trait when you have to deal with others (I am learning); and definitely not a nice trait when family members want to help you ‘plan’ a hen party and kitchen tea for your best friend (when you already have everything organised down to the type of tablecloth and a minute by minute run down of what happens when on the day). I want my friend to have an awesome day free from the embarrassment and often trying moments of my hen party – and, since our taste differs only in respect to our choice of partner – I believe that what I have planned is something that she will love.

So what do you do when (male) family members are trying to help plan her day – but not to be the fairytale of fun and happiness that you envision? What would you do if all they wanted to do was hire strippers, bring in alcohol, and embarrass her as much as humanly possible in those few short hours? I am not averse to a few moments of blushing – but I know how much of a moron I felt like at moments (I will spare you the details).  I know that he means well; and that she adores him and wants him involved to have him feel a part of it all – but she has no clue what is going on in that conniving mind :D But I can be conniving too – a secret date for the hen party encripted into an sms/email sent only to select people capable of reading the info and keeping a secret… boy, this is going to be one very empty party :P

Firming, preserving and tanning

Now that I am having my dress made, That Special Moment’s website really stood out.  I noticed their ad on Facebook and thought I would share their info with you if you haven’t already heard of them.  They offer a storage option for your wedding dress that preserves the fabric and colour.  Read more on www.thatspecialmoment.com.
