This is how Mr Brain proposed:
I woke up on a Sunday morning to find a huge bunch of red roses on my night stand. There was a note attached asking me to be ready at 11am. When 11am came around, he took me out into the country (it took about an hour to drive out there) for a romantic Sunday lunch at a restaurant that is a special place for us. We had lunch in a private room in front of a fireplace (he proposed in winter so the fire was welcome!). The food was wonderful and we chatted away. When the dessert came around he got on one knee in front of the fire and presented me with my beautiful diamond ring. It was the best day of my life!(needless to say – I said YES)
WOW now this is gr8!
Mr Calla Lilly proposed this way:
ALLOT of planning went into his thinking of getting engaged. Sooo one night in our Brand new home, he was busy playing Playstation games, I was busy painting our new kitchen cupboards.. He all of a sudden got up and said he needs to go. I was stunned, but said bye…. He cam back half an hour later, I was still busy decoupaching our kitchen cupboards. Mr CL asked me to look for a screw driver as he wants to put something up in the kitchen for. While I was digging in his tool shed, he slipped into the house. I came back and took the brush and painted again…. My back was towards him, the next moment he is behind me on one knee, I was stunned!!! In his hand he was holding my MOST Favorite PUPPY! He bought me a Longhair Cream Dachshund from England! I thought awwwww, he is sooo sweet, then I saw the ring around the puppies collar! And he asked me “if I would do him the pleasure of making him happy for the rest of his life” I was sooooo amazed! And immediately said yes….. AFTERWARDS I found out, he had to go fetch the puppy at the airport…. This was the most romantic moment of my life so far!!! NOW all of you would understand my wedding theme, I thought, ok, he started it with Dachshunds, and I am giving us a happy “ending” to everything, and what better way than with our wedding day?
This is how my soon-to -be hubby proposed!
I was in KZN on christmas holiday and my fiance’ in Cape town with his family I had intially planned to fly to him for new year, but couldnt get a flight, highly dissapointed I had forgotten about it. On the 28th December 07, he called to say that he had booked a flight for me to visit for the new year. I flew up to CT and everything was as can be expected, no hint of any proposal. He scheduled us to go scuba diving and I was not keen at the time because I had a terrible cold. But I did it knowing that he was so exicted about it and had booked it weeks in advance. So we went for the training and and then the simons town. As we were under the ocean in the open sea looking at coral reef and sea creatures he got down on one knee with a little white board saying ‘this it is babes’ I love u so much’ Will you marry me’ I actually forget to breath – literally took my breath away I said yes and he put the most beautiful ring on my finger, the one i have been eyeing for months – then took it back knowing how clumsy I can be. It was totally awesome. Then after spreading the news – his mom was getting really nervous cos she didnt know the outcome, but after going home to freshen up we met the family and gave then good new then he took me to the most romatic resturant on a lake and we had a meal, some time to enjoy what was left of the day. He definitley caught me totally by surprise.
This is how I proposed to the most beautiful girl in the world:
It started with a casual lunch (sushi- her favourite!) after which i causally suggested we have drinks at the 12 Apostles Hotel in Camps Bay with a fantastic view of the sea. We spent the afternoon sipping on cocktails until the sun was almost setting when i suggested we take a walk on Clifton Beach.
With the help of some family and friends, a table and two chiars had been set up on the far end of the beach with red roses and French champagne. The whole area around the table was covered in white rose petals. There was also a small reserved sign on the table “For Jennifer and Kenneth”
We she saw the table she thought it was for someone else and suggested we just walk on by until i brought out the ring and went down on one knee….
And with the sun setting in the background, the sound of waves breaking on the shore and a completely supprised look on her face- she said YES!
The entire event was captured beautifully by my best friend on camera who was hiding in the bushes leaving us with some of the most priceless photographs in the world!
This is how my fiance proposed:
i thought we were going to work on friday the 20th June, but instead he took me to the airport (we were meant to go away with friends that weeked so we had our bags packed and in the car so that we could leave straight from work, or so i thought). anyway we got to this private airport and we got on a private plane and we were flown to Madikwe Game Reserve, we stayed for the weekend at Jaci’s safari lodge (5* yea!!). Friday night we went on a game drive and my boyfriend said he forgot his camera in the room, to which i found out after wards that he went to get the ring and put it in the camera bag. once the game drive was done, my boyfriend said that he wanted to go to the room quickly before going to dinner, when we got there i opened the doors and they had set it up with flowers and champayne and bubble bath, and i turned aroundn to ask him what was going on, and he dropped to one knee. then we proceeded to have a lovely weekend there, and flew back on the sunday.

this competition is so biased–why must it always be a male proposing to a female? why must there even be a proposal? cue retching
For all those excited ladies who took the bold step and proposed. I’m sure you have not been left out of this competition. Maybe the judges will even consider you for more points for being the gutsy one who popped the question. I do hope we can all read at least one wonderfully romantic way in which the lady proposes. Lets have it ;)
My Mr Right made my year by proposing to me in his very special way:
Plan A: The day was supposed to start out with a walk up Lion’s Head (Cape Town)……this however was not going to happen as I was having a lazy Saturday morning. Besides, I had done my hair and I did not feel like getting all sweaty so early in the day!
Plan B: A trip up Table Mountain. I was lead to believe that my soon to be Fiancé has actually been dying to go up Table Mountain for the last year (much to my surprise as he had NEVER mentioned this!). So after much deliberation I decided to oblige and go up the mountain. Once at the top we found a nice little secluded spot and sat and admired the view.
Now I am a Geographer by profession so am I always interested in my surroundings; so My Fiancé very coolly pointed out how beautiful the rock formations were. Whilst I was studying them he proceeded to pick a “weird” looking rock up off the floor. Of course it was my ring and I just burst into fits of tears and laughter after which I announced I will marry him!!!!! After a quick bottle of Champers, I was told to pack a bag and whisked away to a 5 start hotel in Stellenbosch for the night. THE most fantastic weekend, EVER!!!
The most memorable day of my life so far started off on a Tuesday(sorry….its a long one ;-))! I woke up and started getting ready to go to work as per usual when i noticed a note on my door. It was very romantic, my boyfriend had requested that i get dressed in casual clothes and pack a bikini, and not to worry about work as he had already organised the day off for me on me behalf, i was not allowed to contact him at all during the day and i was to be fetched at 9:15. At 9.15, a driver came to fetch me (one of his friends) and presented me with another note, this note informed me that the driver would be driving me around most of the day and not to worry this is all planned…and once again do not contact him. As i got into the car to go off to this mysterious destination…my best friend (and MOH now) popped out from behind the back seat with a hug smile on her face. We eventually arrived at a Spa, where my best friend and I were treated to an entire day of massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, etc as well as lots of champagne and a fantastic lunch! Along the day i kept being given romantic notes from my boyfriend which my best friend was hiding from me along the way! Eventually our relaxing spa day ended and the driver came and took us back to my place where i was given another note telling me to get dressed up and get ready to go to my final destination to meet him! The driver fetched me for the last time and took me to my boyfriend who was waiting for me at a very fancy resturant which he had hired out (so it was only us and the waiter and chef), there was rose petals everywhere and fantastic champagne….it really was the best day ever!!! :)
What a lovely idea to recognise the hours of planning and brainstorming that go into a perfect proposal!
My proposal was a complete surprise! My boyfriend, Brett and I, travelled to Cape Town to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and when we woke up to a beautiful Sunday morning, my boyfriend Brett suggested we climb Table Mountain – something we had planned to do when we met as students at UCT but just never got round to. We chose the Platteklip Gorge route and I was determined to take it easy, stopping to take photographs of flowers and the view while Brett seemed to be racing up! (Little did I know why!) Evetually the hike became quite tough and I adopted a walk three steps and rest policy, which Brett tolerated with very good humour in hindsight. When we reached the top, we chose a spot from which to admire the view, including Devil’s Peak, a very special spot for us as UCT nestles on its slopes. Brett suddenly pulled a photograph album out of the backpack: he then proceeded to read me a poem, accompanied by pictures which chronicled our relationship. At the end of the poem, he pulled a box out of his pocket, got down on one knee and recited these lines which he had composed and memorised: “My darling Bajick (my nickname), it’s time I show the world my love so with God and his angels cheering above, I open a little box and fall to one knee and I ask you, “Candice, will you marry me?” I of course, said “Yes!” and we’re getting married next year.
I had gone out on Sunday and when I came home he was acting weird – but I was bursting for the toilet so I went running to the toilet – so romantic :-) When I came out he said to me that Zumbi (our jack russel puppy) wanted to “talk” to me…so I look at Zumbi and he is running into the kitchen…my fiance follows him in there and then says to me that Max (our other jack russel) wanted to talk to me instead – so I am thinking – weird!!!
Anyway, I walk up to Max who is now chewing something – I take the something out of his mouth and it is a note – which read – “mommy, daddy wants to know if you will marry him?”.
I walk out of the kitchen to find my fiance on one knee with a ring and he asked me if I would be his wife – I said YES!!!!
It was not 100% what he had planned to do – he had wanted our song to be playing in the background (but the CD just wouldn’t play) and he had wanted to have the note in Zumbi’s collar for me to find but Max (who happens to be the naughty one) stole it and promptly started eating it :-) It wasn’t as perfect as he wanted it but it was perfect for me!!!
I was trying to arrange a suprise picnic with my best friend for me, my (then) boyfriend, my best friend and her husband. After a month of mentioning the idea to her, she phoned me and said we must arrange everything for that weekend at the botanical gardens. We arranged everything in secret as I was thinking this is my suprise to him. The Sunday as we got there he really acted suprised and gratefull for the idea. We had a nice lunch and he suggested that we walk down to the waterfall. As we were on our way back we saw our friends were busy taking photos. I thought nothing of this. As we joined them they suggested that we stand in front of this big tree for a photo. I walked in front and as I turned around he was on one knee with the ring in his hand and he then proposed to me. I was so shocked and didn’t expect anything at all. What made it funny was that I heard afterwards that as I was walking to the tree, with my back to him, he took the ring out and it fell and rolled behind me as far as I walked. It was really the best day of my life!
