If you’re a DIY bride, like me then you’ve probably already met Stan or have him in your craft draw. Huh? What am I talking about? Stan, as in Stanley, as in Stanley-Knife? Ah Yoda, understand we do….
I did all my own wedding invites, menus, place cards, hanging name tags tree, ceremony programes, and now my thank you cards. And I just couldn’t have done it without my Stan. When I did my wedding ceremony programes, I upgraded to Carl (my fancy shmancy paper cutter, brand = Carl) and these two have stood by me through thick and thin, and will continue to do so till death do us part.
I must be honest, Im not a fan of guillotines. I never seem to get them to cut quite right and always end up chopping off more than I need to, so I stayed far, far away from them when I did my invites. I found that Stan was the absolute “Man” and all my stationary looked so professional - no skew lines or rigged edges. I like the good o’l fashioned way of having to put some elbow grease into your cutting, instead of chopping with a guillotine!
A “must have combo” for any DIY bride
If you’re doing crafty things for the first time, I highly recommend you invest in your own Stan, and he only costs a couple bucks! Id also recommend that you get a blocked cutting board - you know those green and yellow ones? They are great because you can align your paper edge with one of the yellow lines and slice a perfect line with Stan. Another absolute must, is the metal ruler - don’t try slicing pages with a plastic ruler or you’ll end up with cuts and skew paper - and neither one is attractive!
Oh, oh I feel a DIY do’s and don’ts blog coming on….. watch this space…

Ooh, ok, I am going to do all that stationery myself, but I am soooo clueless, so this is great! What is “Stan”’s actual name when I walk into the hardware store, and is there a specific size that is the best? Where do I go, Mica or somewhere?
I think I would be like you with a guillotine and screw it up! So your idea sounds good!
Tiz a Stanley Knife and you can get it at a hardware shop or from somewhere like CNA.
The cutting board, I got mine from the crafts shop, not sure who else sells them, but the hardware shop should have the steel ruler as well ;)
Sweet, thanks! Much better than scissors!
This is sooo cute! I have all these, but didn’t quite think to put them all in one.. LOL.. I must start on my cards, but haven’t got a clue….
Gr8 job!
