Uniquely You

What fun details are you incorporating into your wedding celebration to make it more “you”? Fun themes, colour schemes, favours, decor touches, and so on can all be something special to you.

Mr Honeysuckle and I love movies - I’d go so far as to use the term “Movie geeks”, so we’re doing a movie theme, with an emphasis on the classics. I cleverly got Mr Honeysuckle to think he’d thought of the idea of using our favourite classic stars as table names, so on each table there’ll be a framed photo of them with their name on a clapper board next to the photo - because, heck, few people are going to be able to recognise what table they’re at just by the photo! We are having eight tables, possibly nine, so we each got to pick four actors or actresses. Funnily enough, I picked the girls and Mr H picked the guys! (With one spare in case of that ninth table). Here they are in one pic - a virtual bouquet to anyone who can name them all! Go on, I dare you. ;-)

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the Oscars. They always choose the wrong winner (No Country for Old Men? Seriously, WTF?) but I can’t help it, I love ‘em anyway. I have oodles of Oscar statistics in my head. Anyway, our favours are going to be little chocolate Oscars that I’m making,  painted gold - hopefully - with a little card saying “And The Oscar Goes To…MARY” which will double as the guest’s placecard.

If only mine could be made by celebrity chef Wolfgang Petersen…

The other, slightly movie-related thing we’re doing is our invitations. We’re doing them as the Golden Tickets from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. Everyone will get a Wonka slab with the ticket inside! Again, I am making the chocolate slabs, and we’re designing and printing the invitations as well as the wrappers that say “Wonka Bar”. Real Wonka Bars were too expensive, and anyway they’re plastic-wrapped, not foil-wrapped, so we’d have to redo all that anyway!

What is everyone else doing that’s uniquely them?

Ohhhhh, I love the table naming idea. I wanted to do that, but couldnt think of what to do haha! I think its GENIUS!!!!

We actaully went to an awards evening where the theme was OSCARS, everyone had to wear black tie (you know the real deal, women in beautiful black evening dresses and the guys in bow ties - it looked beautiful)! The decor there was amazing. Im sure its on my pc somewhere, will hunt and post them up for you :)

Ahh, that didnt take long… Here is the pic I was telling you about. The centre pieces had minature Directors style charis on them. And the napkins, if I rememebr correctly were black with gold ribbon and a gold star wrapped around them. It looked awesome.

They also had these huge posters which covered the wall of old hollywood actors. And two giant oscar statues at the entrance of the reception hall. Infact, I think that an events company did the whole thing, so they might still have the decor for you??? I can find out if you want?

Thanks, that’s very sweet of you! The thing is, it’s a fine line between fun decor touches and in-your-face over the topness! If you see what I mean. So I don’t want to go excessive on the thing. The one idea I do like is to have the big pictures of the movie stars up, but if we have them on the table then I don’t know if it’s going too overboard again to put them on the walls too. I don’t want the wedding to feel like a kid’s birthday party, or like I was trying too hard!

I would looove for everyone to dress up really stylishly, but I don’t feel right asking people to lay out money for tuxes and evening dresses which they probably don’t have.

If I decide I need more decor or something I’ll yell for you!

:) You shouldnt feel bad about asking people to dress the way you want for your wedding, its your day!!! You can rent tuxes and most women have at least one evening dress/cocktail dress :)

Our table favours were champagne glasses that we had engraved with our monogram that we used throughout our wedding theme (on invites, menus etc). We filled these glasses with copper and cream coloured Hershey’s kisses! :)

There are so many great ideas out there, this post could be very interesting :)

We had our guests each choose a song for our wedding and we asked them to email it to us. When the DJ played the songs, he did an annoucement over the PA for who’s song it was. It was great becuase all our guests partied until dawn!

Oh that’s a fun idea! I definitely want the DJ to play my parents’ wedding song; maybe I can do this too! If only people could be relied upon not to choose crap songs…:-)

LOL, let them maybe choose 3-5 songs, then at least you can pick one - hopefully they are not all five bad choices though
