Do yourself a “favour”

Like I mentioned on this blog before, I had made beautiful beaded bookmark favours for the gals at our wedding and they doubled serviette rings.  When my mom arrived from Greece, she said that with it being a Greek weeding, I needed a real “Bomboniere” (see the official meaning at the end of this post).

So, we hunted the malls and eventually, after many arguments, we found these gorgeous busts that we both loved.  They looked just like miniature brides, and very much the style of my wedding dress.  So, we put a tulle doily with silver hearts (matched the silver theme) inside and filled it with Pink and White sugared almonds.  After all, what’s a Greek wedding without the almonds?

These looked really gorgeous and they matched in with my vintage(y) theme.  They were quite expensive, about R50-R60 each, but they looked really stunning.

We couldn’t find enough of the empty ones (which make great make-up brush holders), but we did manage to find ones that were exactly the same but with crystal perfumed bottles inside.  These were a bit more expensive, so we bought out what they had of the empty ones and then used the perfume bottles to balance out the numbers.

I got stickers that said “Thank you for sharing this special day with us” and placed them on the bust.

Bomboniere (Italian) also known as “favors,” are gifts given out on special occasions to the guests. They traditionally contain five sugared almonds which, for wedding, symbolise health, wealth, happiness, fertility and long life.  Bomboniere can be made in many forms using several different ingredients.  Sugared almonds are put inside a bag made of tulle or satin and tied with ribbons in assorted colors.

  • Those are totally cute! I hope the guests took them home at the end!

  • Funny enough most of them took them, and a few people left them behind. We made an annoucement that they musnt take the rosebowls, so I wonder if some people got confused?

  • I think people often just don’t take the favours…they forget, or they think it will clutter up their home. Or maybe they thought the sweets were the favours and the busts were just decor?

They’d better eat my chocolates, after the mission I went through to get the moulds and I still have to MAKE seventy-odd of them, paint them gold and wrap them!
