The engagement
We knew after only dating for about 3 months that we wanted to get married. After our 1st year anniversary in February 2006 he took me to a jeweller and said I can design my own ring -  which I’m very glad about because I have to wear it for the rest of my life – I didn’t know when it will be finished or when he’ll pick it up.

On Friday the 26 of May 2006 he said that he has a late meeting at work will be home late – so I decided to go to dinner with one of my friends. When I arrived home all the lights were off – I first thought our electricity was off again – but when I walked into the house there were flowers and candles lit everywhere, over 500 roses!!!

He asked me to come and sit next to him on the couch and had positioned the ring under a scatter cushion where I always sat – thinking I would lift the pillow and see it.

But instead I went to sit on his lap – secretly knowing what he was up to – so he reached under the pillow and asked me if I would do the honour of being his wife  - the first thing I did was look at the ring – and guess what – it wasn’t what I had designed at all – and said to him… mmm baby it’s the wrong ring – he looked and said… oh well, we’ll just go back and change it then….then I said yes of course I’ll marry you.. although you didn’t go on one knee… ha ha – we still laugh about it… he still says that he wants to propose again and make it perfect….

The wedding
We got married almost exactly 2 years after we met at Mellow Oaks in Little Falls, they are fantastic, all the guest still rave about the food.

The night before my maid of honour and I slept at my parents house doing our nails and watching soppy romance movies.

Neill slept at our house – went out with my cousin the MC to work on his speech – supposedly -  he cant remember how he got home – so I guess all they did was drink…

I didn’t sleep at all, so at 6am I got up to have my first cup of coffee, we had our hair and make-up done, first tears started when I saw the little flower girl’s hair – she looked so beautiful.

Then the videographer arrived to do the interviews and to take some shots of me getting dressed. I was so relaxed during the whole thing until I cried my eyes out telling Neill on the video why I love him. We went to the venue in a 1970 Cadillac (Elvis’s car), as soon as I stepped out the car and took my dad’s hand I started hyperventilating and shaking trying to hold back the tears…

The ceremony was wonderful – even though we didn’t hear a thing – it all felt like a dream. After the ceremony we cut the cake so the guests could eat while we took photo’s, Mark was wonderful and captured everything we wanted. The photo’s came together so nicely because I made sure the whole wedding party wore the same colours, it looked amazing.

The reception was a blast, everyone danced the night away and everything went without a hitch – all my hard work and planning paid off. It was and still is the best wedding we went to. We spent the night at the venue at the bridal suite, opening presents till 4 in the morning and just talking about our own experience throughout the day. It was wonderful.

The honeymoon
Our honeymoon started a bit delayed, the flights were cancelled due to a cyclone in Mauritius, so our honeymoon night we spent in the Garden Court hotel at the airport and eating dinner at the Spur! We left the Monday morning for Mauritius and spent a week there, it was awesome and enjoyed every minute of it.
