Old Hollywood Inspiration

May 3, 2008 | Posted by Mizz Honeysuckle

Well, at the rate I am chopping and changing with this wedding theme & decor stuff, I will probably change my mind the night before. My latest inspiration is Old Hollywood Glamour. I adore old classic films - give me Bette, Judy, Katharine, Cary, Fred and Ginger and I’m in heaven. (That’s Davis, Garland, Hepburn, Grant, Astaire and Rogers for the uninitiated).

Anyway, I luuurve the look and feel of this theme. I’ve also recently discovered “inspiration boards” on some wedding blogs (as if I wasn’t spending enough time on wedding websites). So I thought I’d try my hand at my own “Old Hollywood” inspiration board! This is what I came up with:

Be kind to me, it’s my first try. :-)

To be honest, I’m not sure where I got all those pics from, but line 2 pic 2 is a still from the film “Swing Time”, and  the last pics on lines 3 and 4 are from a real wedding you can see hereHere are some sites with their own inspiration boards, so you can see what I mean.

WOW Mizz Honeysuckle - well done…. It looks awesome. I really like inspiration boards. I did mine with my cut outs, but i should scan and load it up.

Anwyays, the dress, top right is GORGEOUS!!!! Love the hairstyle and those earings would all look beautiful together.

I also think that bouquet accented with flowers is really nice - ohh and the hair pins… I think you’ve nailed it :)

Thank you so much! Of course, lots of that stuff I just found online and thought it would go with the theme…I don’t actually HAVE it! Oh and my dress looks nothing like that style. But I think if I bring in elements of the theme it’ll still work. At the moment I’m loving the idea of feathers in my bouquet! I wonder how long that will last…

I came across the new trend where the old/black and white movie was playing on the large back drop during the reception. It adds such wonderful feel!

I love that idea, though it sounds like an added expense and effort to organise a projector and backdrop etc. I wonder if my venue allows that? I should find out!

The only problem would be WHICH movie to choose! :-)

Id go for something with icons such as Marilyn Monroe or James Dean, but a romancy kind of movie in black and white. Or you could edit a few shots of your favourite clips?

I think the 50’s feels too recent for me. I’d go with a late 30’s or early 40’s black & white choice, rather. Fred & Ginger, Bette Davis, that sort of thing. Casablanca, Now Voyager…man, I can’t get enough of those movies. I think I’m gonna go watch one later!

Hi Mizz Honeysuckle. I write for a wedding blog, is it ok to copy your inspiration board? Credits will be given to you. Thank you very much
