Who knew centrepieces could be so complicated? Probably everyone except
me…it’s just, in the old days (you know, like the eighties!) everyone had
these big floral arrangements on their tables, the kind that were poofy to
match the wedding dress, and so huge you couldn’t see five people on the
other side of the table. Not me, I decided, I’m going to have something
simple and elegant and (ahem) cheaper.
Definitely don’t want this…
Anyway, so I’ve narrowed my idea of simple and elegant and inexpensive down
to about fifty. Just kidding. I’ve got it down to forty-seven now. :-)
These are some pictures I love. I just don’t know how to decide which one to
go with! I feel like the submerged flower idea, while stunning if it’s
pulled off correctly, can end up looking really shoddy if done badly. At
this point I should say that I’m not having a florist decorate the tables,
because a friend of mine is paying for the flowers as his wedding gift
(isn’t he the best?) but another friend of mine - and possibly me, depending
on time and stress - is going to pull the decor together. So it CAN’T be too
complex!
LOVE the elegance of this..but it’s too tall.

This is pretty and romantic…but too plain?
This is stunning…but it’s more daytime and summery than my wedding…
Just love this one too, but is it too much?
And another submerged look I love:
Yeah, so basically I don’t have a CLUE what I want. How on earth do I combine all the elements I like from all these photos, while doing the whole thing kind of DIY?
Oh, and did I mention I also don’t want my poor friend who is PAYING for all of this to fall over in shock. And then never speak to me again!
Flowers are a pain. Pity I like them so much! It would be so much easier with just candles.

Why not consider floating flowers in a lower glass bowl with candles on a mirror base? This often looks awesome, simple and very chic. Also take into consideration what you will be serving. Centerpieces can be more than obstructive of guests, they can simply be in the way when you are dining. Id say select more exclusive flowers, orchids - philinopsis or simbidiums and float these with a few branches of willow or succulent lilly stems or leaves for a more exotic look. add a few votive and floating candles and a mirror base and voila. STUNNING.
I love the mirror base idea! I think in the first picture I posted, the one with the tall vases containing submerged lilies and tulips, the light from the candles reflects beautifully into the water. The floating candles in a bowl was another early idea I had…it’s all so confusing! It will look stunning, though. Thanks for your ideas!
I like option 4, its classy and simple, plus you can rent those bowls from most wedding and function decor companies.
I like the floating candles idea that Mr Stargazer suggested - what about combining the two options and have a mirror at the bottom of the vase in the centre?
BTW What colour palate have you chosen for your big day?
You know what I could do with option 4, is get rid of the vase with the green fluffy flowers (are they mums?) and have the middle one with a floating candle as it is, with two vases on each side (the tulips and the red lilies as above. All on a mirror base.
My colour is crimson/dark red, and white of course, since my dress and the tablecloths are white - but I’m trying to decide if I should accent it with a dark purple or if I should just use crimson and white. It totally works in the picture, with the red lilies and white tulips!
Any recommendations for decor companies I can rent the vases from? Not too expensive, please…half the time you could BUY the vases from glass factories/wholesalers for the rental price!
The one with the roses is nice. Love it!
I love them all for different reasons! I’ll speak to my florsi friend and see what he’s willing to pay for. This may be the deciding factor!
I didn’t want flowers anywhere on my wedding. BUT, my mother insisted on some colour. Well this is what I did.
I bought these gold balls and went to MR. Price Home and bought “weat” and thin bamboo sticks and those plastic gerbera’s. I made the centre pieces myself the night before my wedding. Look at the pic….It came out fabulous. And it didn’t cost a fortune.
You can use fresh flowers if you want, but because there was no space for vases with water I decided not to use fresh flowers.
Now when I walk into my families houses….guess what you see…..my arrangements everywhere. On the coffee table, in the kitchen, in the bedrooms. It makes me feel so proud.
