The engagement
It was our 7-year dating anniversary and Gary took me out to dinner (as he always did) to my favourite restaurant - The Roma.  I was completely clueless as to what was happening.

It was a great evening and after dinner he came around to my side of the table, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with a beautiful Shimansky Millennium ring.

I said straight away and seven months later we started to plan our wedding.

The wedding
The night before the wedding we all stayed over at Calderwood Hall.  I was in the Manor house with my bridesmaid and Gary spent the night in one of the garden suites so that we would not see each other on the day.

We had such a magnificent day, and the weather played out perfectly.  It was raining on the way to the venue the day before and it had been raining that whole week.  But, on the day of the wedding it completely cleared up and we had sunshine and blue skies.

80 of our closest friends joined us and most of them spent the night at the venue.  We had a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony in the chapel at Calderwood and it was a beautiful ceremony.  I was so scared that I was going to cry because I blubber at everyone elses’ wedding, but I was just so overjoyed that I didnt shed a tear - which for me, was fantastic!

Our reception was held in the beautifully draped reception hall at Calderwood.  I had white tablecloths with huge silver candelabras on each table.  I also had only roses as my theme, and each table had two silver rose bowls filled with plain roses.  Rose petals were scattered on all the tables and the venue looked absolutely breathtaking.

I had so much fun, we broke plates, and danced non-stop, which is unusual for us because we don’t usually dance that much - but we did and my cousin and I even broke one of the tables doing a Greek Tsifteteli (belly dance) on it.

During our first dance we had our guests hold these half-a-metre long sparklers and it looked and felt as though we were in a real life fairytale.

Gary did his Zembekiko which also a Greek dance, that he learnt the night before as he’s not Greek.  Anyway, everyone gathered around him, clapping while he danced and broke plates while my cousin and brother poured whiskey on the floor and set it a light. It was truly spectacular.

I can talk about my wedding all day, it was just perfect. I wouldnt change a thing and it was worth all the stress that goes into planning that one day.  Everyone told us what a beautiful wedding it was, and it was the BEST one we had ever been to :)

The honeymoon
We spent two weeks at the LeMauricia hotel and resort in Mauritius.  We had an amazing time and came back looking like locals.

Gary wanted to surprise me, and managed to keep the secret for two weeks (because we only went two weeks after our wedding), but two days before we left, he slipped up in all his excitement.  But I was still surprised when we got there because I didnt know where we were staying and I hadnt researched the hotel or the island.

Our delicious choclate cake - we ordered one for 120 people, so the venue gave us the left overs and we enjoyed it for a week after the wedding and it tasted as good as the wedding day
