The engagement
Jaco & I met through very close mutual friends who brought him along for a weekend away toPonta do Ouro Mozabique where my parents have a holiday home.  It was strange that we’d both grown up in the small town of Richards Bay and yet never met!  I was attracted to him from the very start, he was open and easy to talk to and we just “clicked”.

Shortly before long we were planning another weekend together and we realised we were in love.  Although we had discussed marriage from the beginning I had no idea what was about to happen and was slightly put off track as the day before when we were sitting on the beach chatting about where things were headed he mentioned I’d have to wait a while longer as he had to save for the ring.

Not suspecting a thing on the Sunday (8th April) he asked me to go with him for a walk on the beach to our secret spot so he could see what the surf was doing… Because it was drizzling slightly I had no inclination to walk on the beach with him yet he was persistent and promised me it would be worth my while!

There on the beach, just the two of us, Jaco asked me to be his wife & produced the most stunning princess cut diamond engagement ring!!  I was in tears & absolutely over the moon, of course I said YES!

That night over a celebration dinner with my parents at Café del Mar in Ponta we set the date – 15 Dec 07.  We wanted the fairytale to end in the same place it started – in Ponta Do Ouro, on the beach!

The wedding:
The planning began and the next 6 months passed in a flurry of wedding activities!  Because our marriage would not be legal if we married in Mozambique we had to officially tie the knot in SA a few days before we left on the 11th Dec which was witnessed only by the friends who introduced the two of us our best man and maid of honour, which was very special.

The weather on our actual wedding day was perfect & I woke up that morning with the most excited feeling ever because I was going to marry my Prince Charming!
All the months of hard work and planning had paid off and believe me planning a wedding in Mozambique when you live in SA is quite a task!

If it weren’t for the help of my mom and dad who have been living in Maputo Mozambique for the past 7 years as well as my aunt Rose it would never have been everything it was!

74 Of our closest friends & family joined us as we exchanged vows on the balcony of Praia do ouro Sul Resort overlooking the gorgeous blue ocean & started our journey as “Husband & Wife”.

Our wedding day was perfect and everything I’d imagined and dreamed it would be.
Nothing could take the smiles of our faces on the day & we both agree it was the happiest day of our lives.

The honeymoon
5 nights at the 5 star Flamingo Bay Lodge - Inhambane Mozambique  ;  Flamingo Bay Water Lodge is the ultimate honeymoon destination.  The chalets are situated away from the main building built on stilts in the crystal clear water which adds to the tranquility and serenity.

The resort supplies full breakfast and the most amazing dinners daily.
A stunning way to relax and unwind after the build-up to our wedding.

I’m loving the sandles Andrea. We’re also thinking of a beach theme for our wedding. Did you have your ceremony on the beach?

    Hi ladies,
The beaded sandals were lovingly handmade by my bridesmaid who is very good with beading! I saw the idea in a mag and asked her to copy it and they really turned out beautifully, made for good photos too!!

Thanks Mizz Calla Lilly!! It was SUCH fun, I really enjoyed every minute of it and would do it all again!! Our wedding was more informal and relaxed than most - probably because it was a beach wedding and everyone had a good time. Can’t believe it’s over so quickly though! : (

Andrea! I’m so excited to read this (properly, it was posted before I joined!) because we are thinking of going to Flamingo Bay on our honeymoon as well! Tell me everything about it! Was it fabulous, and my FH wants to know if you got eaten alive by mosquitoes? :-) What are the beaches like?

If you could email me some pictures I would love to see them.
