Music

February 26, 2008 | Posted by Mrz Daffodil

Instead of having someone sing or having the formal church ceremony we played three songs. When I walked into the chapel the song played was Celine Dion - I want you to need me. When we signed the register the song that was played was David Gray - the One I love. The song that played when we walked out the chapel was Kci & jojo - All my life. It was incredible and added such a nice touch to the wedding! :)

Funny enough its going to cost us more to have a PA system put in the chapel than it is to have an organist playing at our venue.

So what Im doing now is downloading all the sheet music of the songs I want played at the ceremony to give to her :)

Well the DJ we had was absolutely excellent - he played everything according to what we wanted and then what the crowd requested or liked. He charged us R1200 from 3 till 1 in the morning and he played the music in the chapel.
Well, enjoy choosing songs, it is hectic! :)

That sounds like a gr8 idea! BUT what if you have a totally outside (Garden wedding ?)

  4. Mizz Daffodil on February 27, 2008 8:55 am

Outside wedding can still work - the dj will know where to put the speakers and what to do? Just make sure they know it is an outside wedding.

Thank you so much, That was the one thing I really haven’t even thought of. Becasue I have a friend who said she will play the keyboard. But I dont know if I should accept ?

keyboard would be cute and so is the dauchie idea. Maybe get her to do a trial for you before you say yes or no?

Even with an outside wedding, you’ll still need a nearby building with fridge and toilet access. It’s easy enough to set up sound equipment either on the porch (if you have one) or further out with the use of extension cords. Just make sure you keep them away from water!

Please tell me what the going rate is for a DJ. We asked a friend that is starting out as a DJ, initially his wife said R1500, then came back and said she made a mistake, it’s actually R2500. Is it only me or is this just a tad bit too much?

Some of the good DJ’s can cost up to R5000. Ours cost R1500 and he was excellent. His no is 083 235 2897. His name is Hannes.

I was quoted between R1800 and R5000 by about eight DJs. We settled on the R2200 guy! I heard of a lady who paid R8000 for hers…now THAT is just plain wrong!

    Ok, I’ll stop complaining! :-)
I quickly phoned our venue, to find out if they have a preferred DJ, and their rates. They also use a local DJ and their quote is R1000. But seeing that it’s 2 weeks before my wedding, I’ll use my newest favourite quote for myself: “Stop sweating the small stuff!”

Where is your venue. R1000 is cheap man!!!!
Jsut have a meeting with them first becuase at my friends wedding her DJ played the wrong first dance song and wouldn’t like that happenign to you.

Just make sure they know what music you like and give them a list too so that they have most of the songs.

Our venue is the Protea Hotel Umfolozi River. Between Richardsbay and St. Lucia. I had cd’s made with only 1 song per cd of our 1st dance and bridal march. In case the dj don’t get to the mute/stop/pause button of the pa system quick enough and then another song starts playing :-). I’m battling with the list of songs, I’m not really clued up on the latest songs. But I suppose the DJ will have that.

Thats not a bad deal. We paid R3500 for our DJ, but just be clear with the times you want him to start. Ours started at 4.30 (and I wanted him to start at 5) and then he charged us for a full hour (from 4) - I would have rather he worked for the full hour :)

Oh ya, forgot to mention that I found Joburg DJs a lot more expensive… in the region of R4000 - 6000 and this was the quotes I got excluding thier accommodation and petrol so Im sure you can imagine …

  16. Mrz Daffodil on June 12, 2008 4:11 pm

Ours was excellent - they set up for the ceremony at 3 and carried on playing until after 12:30.

I would rather spend more money on the dress than have such a costly DJ. Ours was very good even though he wasn’t that expensive.

Is a DJ really so necessary? For my 21st I just burned six hours worth of my favourite songs onto a CD and hooked up a stereo. That way you choose the songs you want to hear, and it sounds just fine so long as you have a decent sound system. Nothing is cheaper than free!

YES, YES, YES. MUSIC IS THE BEST PART. WE WENT TO A FRIENDS WEDDING AND THE MUSIC WAS NOT GOOD AT ALL. THAT MAKES YOU NOT WANT TO STAY ANY LONGER. AT OUR WEDDING WE MADE SURE THE DJ KNEW WHAT WE WANTED AND I REMAINED ONT EH DANCEFLOOR. I WENT TO EACH TABLE LIKE ONCE AND THE REST WE SPENT DANCING. I LOVED MUSIC AND DANCING AND IT JUST ENDS OFF THE PERFECT NIGHT.
